What journey has the EvoTalents team undertaken?

In anticipation of the New Year, it's natural to reflect on the past year, remembering all the good things that happened and the challenges we managed to overcome.

There's a feeling that EvoTalents is smoothly transitioning into a new phase: we're growing and evolving, internal processes and relationships are changing. So, I wanted to share with you the story of how we started, the journey we've been on, and where we are now.

March ‘16

This particular period was crucial. I had to overcome all my fears, leave my job, and go to London for six months. I had been contemplating the idea of freelancing for a long time, building a financial cushion, planning how it would work, and what I would do if it didn't.

But, in the end, starting freelancing turned out to be quite straightforward for me. Thanks to two close friends who were HR managers at two IT companies at the time, I had my first two clients on the very first day. I'm still infinitely grateful for that!

 

January ‘17

In addition to me, there are two more people in the team. And if up to this point, I used to say that I'm just a freelancer who brings in some help, now I'm starting to realize that we're growing into something bigger.

At this moment, I still communicate with clients, handle all the communications, but two recruiters are already working on some of the job openings and interacting with candidates.

The availability of clients is not stable; sometimes we have too many of them, and we work on weekends. Other times, there is a downturn (especially during the New Year period), and the team is barely busy. But everything changes very quickly with the arrival of spring.

Summer ‘17

A very significant period for us :) For two months, Maria Naumenko and I were brainstorming company names. We had 104 options!

Even my trip to Nepal didn't yield any results. I was hoping that by disconnecting from everyday tasks and meditating somewhere high in the mountains, I would come up with the company name. I managed to disconnect from daily tasks, but the inspiration didn't come.

So, we simply chose 5 options and held a vote. Then, we successfully combined the top two names (with the help of our friend).

That's how we became a real IT recruiting company :) We had a name, a logo was created, a Facebook page was set up, and we held our first strategic session with a team of five people. We outlined our future goals and planned how to achieve them.

During this period, recruiters started working directly with clients. This was also an important step for me: trusting the team, letting go of control, and allowing certain processes to function without my direct involvement.

Winter ’17

By the end of the year, we had grown to 8 people. We found an interesting niche for ourselves - sourcing. We started developing our skills in this area and sharing our knowledge.

This led to the creation of a Facebook group called the Ukrainian Sourcing Community, which now has over 1000 members.

We also began organizing events for recruiters. We hosted our first webinar with Irina Shamaeva and have many activities planned for the next year.

Winter ‘18

This year brought us many exciting events, including team-building activities and trips.
