Hello from the EvoTalents team! In this article, we want to share how we build our strategy for sourcing Frontend Developers (frontend developer position). We are sharing valuable resources that can help you fill the position independently. We also discuss when it's appropriate to turn to a recruiting agency and share our extensive experience in closing similar roles.

Anya, our recruiting partner with over 5 years of experience in technical talent acquisition, is our speaker today! We hope you genuinely discover new information and gain useful knowledge.

How to Find a Frontend Developer

Finding any specialist requires a strategy. Everything starts with it, and the subsequent success depends on it. There are specific steps I take when starting work on a vacancy - a clear examination of the requirements, identifying the most important ones, how many specialists are available in a specific location, in the market overall, and determining whether there has been experience with a similar vacancy before, how long ago, and how much the previous experience can help me. Very often, out of the entire list of requirements, 2-3 criteria are essential, while the others are secondary and can be learned over time. I also list various keywords, titles, donor companies, and universities that could help me. Firstly, I conduct sourcing based on the main criteria, allowing me to work through the primary requirements and significantly increase the chances of closure, then I expand the search criteria. When you have more experience, you begin to understand which channels work better, and they are different for each vacancy [we will talk about this in more detail later].

If there has been previous experience with a similar vacancy, the first thing I do is review the old vacancy, reach out to candidates, find out how they are doing, and if they are ready to discuss new opportunities. After all, this is not a direct cold contact, and usually, people react very well when there has been a connection before. Taking into account what I learned from previous experience and the candidate's preferences, I propose the vacancy.

When a candidate declines, I find out why, when they could reconsider, gather all the necessary information that could help me, despite the refusal, in the future. I have also encountered situations where candidates interpret certain aspects of the vacancy in their own way, meaning they make assumptions. For example, I once approached a candidate for a telephony project and received a rejection. When asked "Why?" I got the answer that there was no experience with telephony, although we did not have such a requirement in the vacancy, and I was able to continue communication with them. Conducting quality communication and dialogue is the key to success.

In addition to the above, for developing an effective sourcing strategy, knowledge of various tools, channels, market orientation, understanding of positions, their specifics, knowledge of companies, their products, and technology stacks is very helpful.

What to pay attention to in the resume of a Frontend Developer

Experience, products, companies, whether the candidate worked with React.js, Vue.js, Angular.js frameworks, or native JavaScript. It's important to know which frameworks and their versions the candidate has worked with; for example, Angular 2 significantly differs from versions 2+. Also, inquire about the libraries the candidate has experience with. In general, frameworks are usually the main focus, and learning additional libraries typically requires some time.

Julia, our recruiting partner, also shared her opinion:

" If we talk from a technical perspective, it's crucial to clarify details about TypeScript experience with the hiring manager, whether it's necessary for this project. Often, experience with unit testing is required, and it's essential to pay attention to that. Also, be aware of upcoming tasks because it might be necessary to have experience building a project from scratch, and not everyone can handle that. However, not all candidates mention these details in their resumes. Usually, you analyze based on the tech stack and years of experience; everything else is discussed in a call or through text. ”
