The EvoTalents team has been learning English for several months now. Our COO, Yulia, gives us a little "homework" every two weeks (usually it involves watching a video), and then we gather in a video call to share our thoughts on what we've watched.
Why did we start learning English? Firstly, it's a great opportunity to practice the language, which will help us to communicate better with our international clients. Secondly, our team has another chance to interact in a friendly environment.
Here's what Yulia says about our lessons:
It really strengthens the team because we keep these meetings short and informal. We discuss topics related to IT recruiting, share our thoughts, have discussions, and get to know each other better through personal stories. It's really English for pleasure.
EvoTalents is all about care. So, we want to share links to useful videos that we watched for our English lessons. Of course, the foundation is IT recruiting. However, even if you're simply interested in leadership qualities and communication skills, you can find it all in the videos below ;)
1. How we can use the hiring process to bring out the best in people
Traditional job interviews are stressful interrogations that can often exclude marginalized populations. Here's how psychologist and entrepreneur Gil Winch says we can rethink hiring, training and onboarding to allow people to show their true potential.
The Way We Work is a TED original video series where leaders and thinkers offer practical wisdom and insight into how we can adapt and thrive amid changing workplace conventions.
2. How great leaders inspire action
Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.
3. How to Master Recruiting
Hiring the right people for your team and organisation is the key to success for any leader. However research shows that most leaders spend 10% of their time recruiting, and 90% of their time making up for recruiting mistakes.
This is not their fault, it’s simply that non of us have never been taught how to recruit the right people.
In this video, Mads share frameworks, processes, and tools for how you can become a world-class recruiter today, and immediately start hiring the right people, that will enable you and your organisation to reach its potential.
4. Management and Mismanagement Styles
The four basic styles of management are determined by the permutation of the four roles that need to be performed if an organization is going to be healthy: (
- P)roducing the results for which the organization exists, thus making the organization effective;
- (A)dministering, for efficiency;
- (E)ntrepreneuring, for change;
- (I)ntegrating the parts of the organization, for long-term viability - or (PAEI).
When only one role is performed and none of the others meets the minimum needs of the task, a mismanagement style emerges, and these are the main focus of this topic.
That's it for now! But we'll definitely be back soon with a new portion of interesting and useful videos for you ;)
