Now salary expectations of IT specialists are so different that is not an easy task to predict how they will look like in the nearest future. That's why a Client Manager at EvoTalents IT recruiting agency, Anna Medvedeva, decided to help with this question and conducted a Salary Review (September 2020-June 2021). And we'd like to share with you our observations, pieces of advice and conclusions.
Who is this article about?
We researched salary expectations of Middle and Senior developers* from the pool of the vacancies our agency worked with during this period.
*Middle Developers with 2-4 years of experience and Senior Developers with 5+ years of experience.
Frontend та Python Developers
So, let's start our review with Frontend Developers, because they are in the highest demand now, and every client has at least one Frontend vacancy. According to our research, salary expectations for Middle Frontend Developers varied wildly over the above period, with some expecting $2,500/month, and others expecting $7,000/month and above (details in the infographic below). Whereas for Senior Frontend Developers, these numbers were from $3,500/month to $9,625/month.
What is the situation with Python Developer? The median salary expectation of a Middle Python Developer is $3,500, while Senior Python Developer expect $5,250/month. The data for the lower and upper quartiles can be seen below:

What is the situation on the market in general?
Before moving on, we would like to emphasize that the latest data from Djinni.co shows that there are only about 15 thousand candidates for ~27 thousand vacancies. There is now a significant shortage of interested candidates, which is the main reason of the huge increase in salary expectations. In addition, the response rate decreased from 50% to 10%. This means that the time to close a position has increased from 1 month to 2-3 months.
PHP та .Net Developers
Let's return to the review of salary expectations. Middle PHP developer salary expectations range from $1,000 to $4,000+/month, with the median $2,500/month, and the median of a Senior PHP Developer salary expectations is $4,000+/month.

As for .Net Developers, the situation is as follows: the median salary expectation is $3,000/month for Middle .Net Developers and $5,000/month for Senior. And in general, salary expectations for these positions range from $2300+ to $5000/month (Middle .Net Developers) and from $3000 to $7000+ (Senior .Net Developers).

DevOps, FS, Node.JS Developers
Looking at changes in DevOps salary expectations, Middle DevOps has the bottom quartile at $2,500/month and the top quartile has reached $4,000/month. As for Senior DevOps, these are $5,250/month and $6,500/month.

We couldn't leave Middle FS (JS + Node.JS) Developers without our attention too. So here median salary expectations are at the level of $3,500/month, and among Senior FS (JS + Node.JS) Developers – $5,500/month. As for Node.JS developers: $3,500/month at the Middle position and $4,000/month at the Senior level.

QAs: Manual vs. Automated
And of course, QAs. The lower quartile of Middle QA salary expectations is $1,500/month, the median is $2,000/month, and the upper quartile is $2,600/month, and Senior QA is $3,000/month, $3,550/month and $3,800/month. The situation with AQA is the next: Middle AQA expects $2,500/month, $2,600/month, $3,000/month and Senior AQA expects $3,500/month, $3,600/month, $4,500/month.

We would also like to add that during 2020 candidates often changed jobs, and we consider this acceptable. After all, some of them were laid off during the pandemic of 2020 and had to agree to projects that they might not like very much. We consider each case separately, and communicate with candidates about the reasons for frequent job changes unbiased and try to understand the internal motives behind it.
Tips for recruiters from EvoTalents.Team
How to search for candidates in such conditions? What should recruiters pay attention to for successful hiring?
Our team shared tips for more effective recruiting in 2021:
- The fewer interview stages you have and the less time between them passes, the better (as many candidates receive offers within the first week of being "open to offers").
- Remote work is another key to success. Try to change company policy and work remotely.
- Working on the company's brand is crucial in the conditions of such high competition and the fight for candidates. Therefore, it is worth investing time and effort in this area now, because it will lead to better results and more candidates who will accept your offer.
